Dhanbad:

Rats were blamed for the destruction of 10 kilograms of marijuana and 9 kilograms of hashish that were confiscated and stored at the Dhanbad district police station in Jharkhand.

A lawyer involved in the case said on Sunday that police had notified a court in the region of the matter.

The police submitted a report to Principal District and Sessions Judge Ram Sharma on Saturday after the court directed the Rajganj police station chief to produce marijuana and hashish seized six years ago.

The officer stated in his report that the rats had completely destroyed the narcotics stored in the Malkana (shop) of the police station.

The police officer said a report has also been registered at the police station in this regard.

On December 14, 2018, the Rajganj police arrested Shambhu Prasad Agrawal and his son with 10 kg of marijuana and 9 kg of hashish. An FIR was also lodged against them at the police station.

During the trial, the court ordered the investigating officer in the case, Jayprakash Prasad, to produce the confiscated cannabis and hashish before the court on April 6.

Abhay Bhatt, defense lawyer in the case, told Press Trust of India (PTI), “Prasad appeared in court on Saturday and submitted an application from the Rajganj police station chief stating that the rats destroyed all the confiscated Material.”

Butt said his client appears to have been framed as a false case because police were unable to produce seized materials.
