Rahul Gandhi to meet Arvind Kejriwal's family and provide legal aid: Report

Rahul Gandhi contacted Arvind Kejriwal’s family soon after the Delhi Chief Minister was arrested by the investigating agencies.

New Delhi:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has contacted Arvind Kejriwal’s family and assured them that he and the support of the great old party.

Sources added that Rahul Gandhi will try to meet Kejriwal or his family tomorrow to provide further legal assistance.

A team from the Enforcement Directorate reached Mr Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday to question him in connection with the liquor policy case. Mr Kejriwal was arrested in dramatic circumstances during a raid at his residence as the AAP convener failed to get interim protection from arrest from the Delhi High Court in the liquor policy case. The Enforcement Directorate then took him to the agency’s headquarters. A medical team also arrived at the emergency room.

After Kejriwal’s arrest, AAP workers and leaders rallied behind him, while India Group leaders also expressed support for the AAP leader. The BJP leader expressed support for the Chief Executive’s action against the Delhi Chief Minister, stressing that “truth must prevail”.
Reacting to the arrest of two opposition chief ministers and the freezing of Congress bank accounts, Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atish on Thursday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party to stop politicking behind the Enforcement Directorate.

She accused the BJP of trying to win elections through undemocratic means and urged them to engage in fair political competition and not use the Election Commission as a tool or weapon for their political agenda.

“Today, the BJP is murdering democracy. They have arrested two opposition chief ministers (one of them Jharkhand Chief Minister CM Hemant Soren was thrown in jail and now the other Chief Minister Kejriwal) and frozen A party’s bank account. Is this how the BJP wants to win elections?” “I want to tell the BJP that if you want to fight, come forward and fight in the political arena, in the electoral arena. Stop hiding. Play politics behind the Chief Executive’s back and stop using the Chief Executive as your weapon,” she said.
Earlier, AAP leaders and Delhi Minister Atishi said they had approached the Supreme Court to quash Kejriwal’s arrest and sought an urgent hearing.
