Prison guard at Yerawada jail in Pune was attacked by 12 inmates and suffered a broken wrist

A jailer at Yerawada Central Jail in Pune was allegedly attacked by some inmates and injured, an official said. Jailer Sherkhan Pathan said he suffered injuries to his face and a broken wrist in the attack on Thursday morning.

While Pathan was on duty in Block I of the jail, he was attacked by inmates Prakash Renuse, Vickey Kamble and 10 others. A case has been registered and investigation is ongoing, he added. In December 2023, a 27-year-old man awaiting trial at Yerawada Prison died after being attacked by four inmates allegedly over past enmity.
