New Delhi:
An upcoming book by British royal biographer Ingrid Seward reveals the alleged “malicious” nickname Prince Philip gave Meghan Markle. Report claim. The late Duke of Edinburgh passed away in 2021 at the age of 99. He allegedly referred to Markle as the “Duchess of Windsor,” an alleged reference to controversial American socialite Wallis Simpson.
Upcoming BookTitled “My Mother and Me,” it delves into Philip’s views on Markle and compares the two women. Seward said Philip found it “uncanny” how much Markle reminded him of Wallis Simpson.
The historical context of Wallis Simpson’s marriage to Edward VIII after his abdication in 1937 appears to have influenced Philip’s view of Markle. Much like Simpson, Markle entered marriage as a divorcee, having previously been married to film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 until their separation in 2014.
According to Seward, Queen Elizabeth II initially viewed Markle more favorably. The New York Post reported that the Queen allegedly “approved” the actress after being introduced to her by Prince Harry in 2017, but her approval did come with a pinch of salt. She reportedly criticized Markle’s wedding dress, saying it was “too white” due to Markle’s previous marriage.
In January 2020, Markle and Prince Harry decided to step down as senior members of the royal family and move to California. This move was similar to the exits of Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson who fled to France after their abdication.
