The Duke of Sussex, who is embroiled in a legal bind regarding his US immigration application, appears to not have to lose his royal titles if he chooses to become a US citizen.
Harry and wife Meghan Markle welcomed Lilibet in 2021 while at their Montecito home. The young princess not only holds the royal titles of HRH, but she is also a US citizen.
According to Geeta Gorji, a legal expert, “A perfect example of a US citizen with a foreign title is Prince Harry’s daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.”
“Lily was born in Santa Barbara, California, so she is a US citizen by birth,” Gorzy told Daily Express US.
Meanwhile, Prince Archie, who was born in the UK in 2019, is also considered a US citizen as well as holding royal titles.
Amidst the commentary that suggested Harry consider becoming a US citizen, many experts claimed he would have to renounce his titles given Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the US Constitution.
However, Gorji pointed out that the law only applies in the US “unless the person holds public office”.
