Prime Video gets Sony Pictures dedicated streaming channel in India

Prime Video has signed a distribution deal with Sony Pictures Television (SPT), a unit of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), to launch a streaming add-on subscription service for Indian audiences.

Sony Pictures-Stream will make SPE’s movies and shows available on Prime Video Channels and its subscribers for an additional introductory subscription fee of Rs 100 per year. 399.

Vivek Srivastava, head of Prime Video Channels in India, said: “This partnership enables Sony Pictures Entertainment to offer its vast and well-loved library in one destination in India, reaching customers across the country through Prime Video Channels.”

Sonika Bhasin, Vice President, South Asia, Sony Pictures Television, said that through the partnership with Prime Video, Indian audiences will have access to content from SPE’s rich library of award-winning films and critically acclaimed TV series.

“Additionally, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, Sony Pictures – Stream offers customers a selection of films from across the studio’s beloved decades, highlighting the studio’s history and Incredible cinematic legacy,” added Bhasin.

In December, there were reports that Amazon would soon start adding ads to Prime Video. Amazon Prime users in the United States have reportedly received a notification from Amazon informing them that the standard Amazon Prime plan will display ads while streaming movies and TV shows. The company originally announced the move last September and said it would take effect in early 2024.
