Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday openly challenged the opposition, warning that they would not spare the people of India if they consider restoring Article 370.

Addressing a poll rally in Udhampur, Prime Minister Modi said: “To maintain control over the people, these parties have created a devil that Jammu and Kashmir will burn if Article 370 is withdrawn, and secede from this country.”

“For the sake of power, they built the wall of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. With your blessings, Modi demolished that wall and buried the remains of Article 370 deep underground,” he added.

Challenging the opposition’s talk of restoring Article 370, PM Modi said if they do so, people “won’t even look at them”.

Earlier this week, Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing a public rally in Madhya Pradesh, also warned the Congress: “Never dare to change Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.”

“Though the Congress cannot come to power again, if by chance it happens, I will warn the Congress not to dare to change Article 370. Kashmir is a part of India. Your (Congress) appeasement politics is over now,” Mr Shah said.
