Pouria Zeraati: Iranian journalist returns to TV a week after being stabbed outside home

A week after an Iranian journalist was stabbed outside his home, he is back on television.

“The show must go on,” Pouria Zeraati, 36, a presenter at Iran International Broadcasting Corporation in London, said a week later he was attacked in London.

On March 29, he was stabbed in the leg by three unknown assailants as he approached his car in Wimbledon, south-west London.

Police said no arrests had been made but they believed the suspect “posed no risk to the London or UK communities”.

They believe the trio fled the country from Heathrow Airport shortly after the attack.

In a video teasing his first international appearance with Iran since the attack, he jokingly described his time in hospital as a “minor delay” and was applauded by others in the studio.

Speaking to ITV News before his return, Zelati described the attack as a “warning shot” and said: “They just stopped in my lap and that was their choice.

“They had a chance to kill me because the second guy grabbed me and the first guy pulled out a knife and they had a chance to stop wherever they wanted.

“Whatever the motivation, the show must go on.”

Mr Zelati also told ITV that “a man came up to him and pretended to be someone demanding £3 cash” before the group grabbed him and stabbed him in the leg.

He then said that “those three or four seconds” after he was stabbed were moments I will never forget in my life, because from the moment I saw the knife in his hand to the moment he stabbed me in the leg, I All I thought about was that he was going to hit, you know, cut my throat? “

“My heart was that he was going to kill me,” the reporter added. “Then they stabbed it in and started running away.”
