Poll officials seize Rs 1 crore cash from houses in Tamil Nadu

Election flying squad officials visited the village and confiscated the cash, the official said.

Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu:

Election flying squad officials seized Rs 1 crore in cash from a house in Tiruchirappallietarai village on Friday night, the first such seizure ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in the state.

District officer Pradeep Kumar told ANI over phone: “Election flying squad officials entered the house in Ettarai village of Tiruchirappalli to conduct searches. They found a Notes totaling Rs 1 crore were in the bag.”

Mr. Kumar said a call was received at the election control room of the Trichy District Collectorate and the cash was recovered.

He further disclosed that the election flying team officials went to the village after receiving information that the currency notes were kept in a house.

Income tax officials are probing who kept such a huge amount of cash at home and whether it was intended to be used during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the district revenue official said.

Polling for the first phase of Tamil Nadu general election is scheduled to be held on April 19 to elect 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu.
