Ravichandran Ashwin has experimented with different moves and paces during the Test series against England, and the spin maestro said experimenting while shutting out external noise was a key factor for him in India’s different conditions an integral part of success. Ashwin, playing his 100th Test in Dharamshala, completed the five-match series as the top wicket-taker with 26 wickets. “Throughout the series, I took different moves, pace and releases. India is different and there are challenges at every venue. I was at least a little insecure about how people felt about me,” Ashwin said in his post-match speech Zhong said.

The 37-year-old said the mentality of adding a new dimension to his bowling has worked well for him.

“If I’m confident I can try something, I don’t hesitate. I keep my ears and eyes open for good feedback.

“I could never learn unless I tried. I’m not saying sticking to one method won’t work. But thankfully, experimentation and learning helped me,” said the Tamil Nadu man.

Ashwin marked Saturday’s match (5/77) and England’s second innings in Ranchi (5/51) as his best performances in the five-match series.

“I was really happy with the way the ball came out (in those spells) because I was most happy with Ranchi’s performance and the second innings.

“In India, sometimes beauty is what’s gone. What’s gone is on his head (the way he set up Ollie Pope in Ranchi). I look forward to him turning the tables there,” he added.

Ashwin had high praise for left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has picked up 19 wickets in four Tests.

“The way the ball came out of Kuldeep’s hands was unbelievable. Over the last 10 months, it’s been inspiring to watch that wrist-spin action and the kind of transitions he’s made throughout the series. I It’s okay to “not be happy for someone,” Ashwin said.
