Former Krishnagar royal family member Amrita Roy, who will take on Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, told New Delhi TV today that in view of the The law and order situation she felt she had a role to play.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, she cited Sandesh Khali’s recent land grab and sexual harassment allegations against Trinammol Congress strongman Sheikh Shah Jahan, saying such incidents happen every other day.

“People are afraid to stand up or speak out… for fear of getting a bad rap. Their basic rights are being taken away,” she added.

She told New Delhi Television that the idea of ​​contesting the election was approached by the BJP, however. She said that although she had been apolitical her entire life, she accepted “because it was a good platform.”

The BJP hopes to win at least 25 of the state’s 42 seats, this time focusing on women’s empowerment.

Showing its huge support to Ms Moitra, the party again fielded her from Krishna Nagar, expressing confidence in her re-election.

When asked about senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh’s remarks about Mamata Banerjee, Ms Roy said, “In politics, a lot of things are possible Misunderstood. You should be more cautious,” said.
