PCB is likely to announce Pakistan’s 18-man squad for T20I series against New Zealand in the coming days | Cricket News

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to announce the men’s squad in green within a few days for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand at home later this month, Geo News reported. The Pakistan men’s cricket team is currently in Kakul to participate in a fitness camp organized by Pakistan Army coaches. Skipper Babar Azam and Pakistan’s chief selectors are in talks to finalize the list of players for the five-match T20I series. According to Geo News sources, an 18-player squad will be announced for the series.

Speedster Haris Rauf is in the recovery phase from a shoulder injury he sustained in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) and hence his availability for the series may be in doubt.

Players expected to feature in the five-match series include Babar, Syed Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan, Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Ali Agha, Iftikhar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Shadab Khan, Usama Mir, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir , Zaman Khan, Usman Khan, Wasim Jr., Irrfan Niazi and Abbas Afridi.

On Monday, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met the players currently participating in the training camp. According to ESPNcricnfo, Naqvi met pace star Shaheen Shah Afridi in Kakul on Monday and agreed a truce after the recent captaincy change fiasco.

Afridi was relieved of his T20I captaincy after leading the men in green in a series in which Pakistan lost 4-1 to New Zealand on Sunday. PCB has reinstated Babar Azam as captain in the white-ball format ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Naqvi and Afridi held talks and, according to ESPNcricnfo, Afridi is still not entirely convinced of the way his concerns have been addressed, but is willing to put the whole thing behind him.

The T20I series will kick off on April 18 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and conclude on April 27 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
