Parrot fortune teller arrested after predicting PMK candidate's poll win

Astrologers use one of their four parakeets to pick a card and read the prediction

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu:

Two roadside astrologers took the help of parakeets to predict the victory of the Patali Makar Kutch (PMK) candidate in the April 19 Lok Sabha elections, a forest department official said today, They were arrested for keeping the parakeets in cages but were later released.

During a consultation with film director and politician Thankar Bachan, the PMK candidate from Cuddalore constituency, the astrologer brothers picked out a card with one of four parakeets and read out that Mr. Bachan would be Predictions of winning elections.

In a video of Mr Bachan’s consultation seen on social media platforms, the candidate can be seen asking the astrologer to feed the bird and give it a banana after the consultation.

The official said four parakeets in two cages were impounded as a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act and the astrologers were later released with a warning.

During the campaign, Mr Bachchan visited the Azhagu Muthu Ayanar temple at Tenampakam near Cuddalore and sought the services of an astrologer to know his electoral fate.

An astrologer released a parakeet from its cage and asked it to pick up a card. When the bird chose a card with an image of the presiding deity of the Azhagu Muthu Ayyanar temple, the fortune teller interpreted it as an auspicious omen and said that Bakan would win the election.

PMK leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss condemned Tuesday’s arrests.
