Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi will visit Pakistan as planned next week despite rising tensions in the Middle East following Tehran’s air strikes on Israel, Pakistan’s foreign minister said on Thursday.

Ishaq Dar said that Raisi will arrive in the capital Islamabad on April 22 for a three-day official visit.

Dar gave no further details, but the visit appeared to be part of an effort by both sides to mend ties that were briefly tense in January, when Tehran and Islamabad launched tit-for-tat strikes against militants accused of attacking the security of each other’s military.

But both sides quickly agreed to work together to improve security cooperation.

The visit was announced days after Iran launched unprecedented air strikes on Israel, following a suspected Israeli airstrike in Syria that killed two Iranian generals inside the Iranian consulate building.

Pakistan is one of the countries that does not have diplomatic relations with Israel due to the lingering issue of Palestinian statehood. Dar said Pakistan hopes to resolve the issue in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
