The Congress Working Committee on Friday met at the AICC headquarters in the national capital to discuss the decision of the Pahalgam terror attack at the AICC headquarters in the national capital and a caste census.
On Thursday, the central government approved the census of caste for the census of the upcoming census.
During the meeting, Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge criticized the Central Government, which is not a “clear strategy” after the Pahalgam attack.
In his initial statement shared on X, Kharge said, “After the Pahalgam terror attack, an immediate meeting of CWC was held on 24 April. In this, we passed a resolution and said that we would give all possible support to the government in the fight against terrorism and also to teach terrorists a lesson.
Kharge said that the entire opposition will work together to remove any challenge that endangers the unity, integrity and prosperity of the country.
He said, “Whatever challenge comes in the way of unity, integrity and prosperity of the country, we will deal with it strictly together. The entire opposition to this issue is with the government. We have given this message to the whole world,” he said.
On 22 April, terrorists attacked the popular tourist destination of Besaran Meadow in Pahgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 tourists and injured several others.
Kharge congratulated Rahul Gandhi for the inclusion of caste count in the upcoming census for the Central Government’s decision and credited him to continuously increase the issue.
“The Modi government has decided to conduct the census of the caste along with the census. For this, I first congratulate Rahulji, who constantly raised the issue and forced the government to decide on caste census. You turned it into a powerful campaign in Bharat Jodo Nai Yatra. And Social Justice became the most important issue of the 18th Lok Sabha.”
However, he questioned the time of the announcement, saying, “The government accepted our years -old demand for caste census, but the time elected surprised us and also shocked us. There have been many doubts in our hearts about the language and spirit, with which many things were said.”
Kharge accused the Modi government of delaying the caste census due to the RSS’s “anti-registration ideology”, saying that, the increasing support of the people for the Congress and allies on the issue did not give any option to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said, “The Modi government postponed the census work of the caste due to the anti-revolution thinking of the RSS. But now that the public started joining the Congress party and all the parties on the issue, it was not possible for Modi ji to postpone it at any time,” he said.
During the meeting, a moment of silence was seen in the remembrance of senior leader Girija Vyas, who has passed away.
According to reports, Vyas recently faced severe burns in the fire while demonstrating Aarti at her house in Vyapur.
The meeting was attended by Lok Sabha Leader Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi along with other senior leaders. (AI)
