Oppo brings AI features with ColorOS new year version update

OPPO New added AI (AI) driven features color operating system. The Chinese smartphone maker held an artificial intelligence strategy meeting on Monday to roll out the new features and revealed a list of phones that will get them first. The AI feature is being added via the ColorOS New Year update in China and will be rolled out to Oppo and OnePlus phones. There’s no word yet on whether these features will also be available on global versions of the operating system.

The company announced the features in multiple posts on Weibo, but most of them have already been revealed by various channels. Report earlier this month.Some functions are different from those previously available in Google Pixel 8 series and Samsung Galaxy S24 series via Galaxy AI. According to Oppo, the ColorOS update will add more than 100 AI features to supported devices.

The ColorOS update brings AI deletion of images, similar to the Magic Eraser on the Pixel 8 series. Once the user highlights an area in the image, AI can automatically detect and remove unwanted objects, people in the background, etc. An AI call summary feature has also been added to the operating system. During a call, users can click a button to start “intelligent consumption” (via Google Translate), which likely means artificial intelligence can listen in on the conversation. After the call ends, tapping the status bar will display a note that will display the entire call summary along with a timestamp. According to the image shared by the company, the summary includes short paragraphs and bullet points.

Of particular interest is Xiaobu, the voice assistant in China’s ColorOS, which also has a variety of artificial intelligence capabilities. The company says generative artificial intelligence is used to improve its dialogue and voice capabilities, making them more realistic. Additionally, several new skills have been added to the Assistant, which can now perform more complex tasks as well as more routine tasks. Xiaobu Photo Studio has also been added to the assistant, which can generate AI pictures. In addition, Xiaobu has also added an AI greeting card function, allowing users to customize New Year greeting cards with the help of AI design.

These AI features will first appear in 16 smartphones from Oppo and OnePlus through the ColorOS update. Currently, it is only available for smartphones in China.These include the recently launched OPPO Find X7 and Oppo Find X7 UltraReno 11 and Reno 11 Pro, OnePlus 12, as well as Find X6 series, Reno 10 series, Find N3, Find N3 Flip, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Ace 3, OnePlus Ace 2 and OnePlus Ace 2 Pro.
