OnePlus 12 series has been officially launched in India and global markets. Similar to the OnePlus 11 series, the lineup features two models: the high-end OnePlus 12 and the more affordable but equally attractive OnePlus 12R. While a lot has been known about these phones, many are still not sure whether to buy the OnePlus 12 or the OnePlus 12R. Here, let’s compare the specifications and prices to see how these models differ so you can make an informed purchasing decision.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Specifications compared

It was long expected that the OnePlus 12 would come with the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, and the smartphone indeed comes with the same chipset. However, the OnePlus 12R is not far behind with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which also powered the OnePlus 11 last year, and several other Android flagships including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Talking about variants, the OnePlus 12 comes in two RAM options: 12GB and 16GB, while the OnePlus 12R switches it up with 8GB and 16GB models. The OnePlus 12 also offers more storage options, thanks to the choice between 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage compared to the OnePlus 1R’s 128GB and 256GB models.

Talking about battery capacity and charging, the OnePlus 12 gets a 5400mAh battery that can be charged using a 100W fast charger, and it is the only OnePlus 12 that supports 50W wireless charging out of the two models.

The OnePlus 12R, on the other hand, gets a larger 5,500mAh battery with 100W charging support.

And speaking of software, both devices run Oxygen OS 14 based on Android 14, and will receive guaranteed Android OS updates for a period of four years.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Display and design

Regarding the display specifications, the OnePlus 12 is equipped with a better 6.82-inch OLED panel. The panel features a QHD resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a new ‘Aqua Touch’ feature that enables users to interact with the phone’s screen even in wet conditions like rain or shower. In terms of specifications, the OnePlus 12 outperforms the OnePlus 12R with a 6.78-inch 1.5K panel, which also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. Notably, the OnePlus 12R also includes support for Aqua Touch technology, making it a viable option for many users who are limited with their budget.

Additionally, a notable aspect of both the OnePlus 12 and 12R displays is their support for a peak brightness of 4500 nits, which puts them firmly in the category of premium smartphones.

The design has been another highly talked about change in this iteration. While design elements remain unchanged, both models feature round displays, a metal frame, and a glass back, representing a significant upgrade from the plastic frame of the OnePlus 11R.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Camera

Optics are an essential component of any smartphone, and the OnePlus 12 series is no exception. The OnePlus 12, notably, incorporates a triple camera system branded by Hasselblad. The system includes a 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 3X telephoto lens, and a third 48MP camera with a 114-degree field of view (FOV). The OnePlus 12R is also well-equipped in the imaging department, with a 50MP IMX 890 sensor, a secondary ultra-wide lens, and a dedicated macro lens.
