One rural volunteer killed, two injured in firing in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district

A village volunteer was killed and two others were injured during an exchange of fire between two armed groups in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Saturday morning, police said.

The encounter began when armed miscreants entered the vicinity of the hill village of Satang Kuki and attacked with guns and bombs.

The fighting stopped after the attackers retreated after additional backup forces arrived in Satang village, he said.

The injured have been taken to a private hospital in Imphal. Hospital sources said that one of the injured had shrapnel wounds on his face and the other on his thigh.

He said that detailed information is awaited.
