What is breast cancer?

Breast cancer is a disease in which breast cells grow out of control and form tumors. If left unchecked, the tumors can spread throughout the body and be fatal. There are different types of breast cancer, depending on which cells in the breast cancer become cancerous.

According to the World Health Organization, certain factors increase the risk of breast cancer, including increasing age, obesity, harmful alcohol use, family history of breast cancer, history of radiation exposure, reproductive history (such as age at menstruation and menarche during pregnancy), smoking and postmenopausal hormone therapy.

About half of all breast cancers occur in women who have no identifiable risk factors for breast cancer other than sex (female) and age (over 40 years).

It also says that a family history of breast cancer increases the risk of breast cancer, but most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no known family history of breast cancer. It added: “The lack of a known family history does not necessarily mean a woman is at reduced risk.”

According to the World Health Organization, symptoms of breast cancer include a lump or thickening in the breast, usually without pain; a change in the size, shape, or appearance of the breast; dimpling, redness, dimpling, or other changes in the skin; the appearance of the nipple or the skin around the nipple Changes; abnormality or bloody fluid in the nipple. Women with unusual breast lumps should seek medical care even if the lump is not painful.

Most breast lumps are not cancerous. Successful treatment is more likely when a cancerous breast lump is small and has not spread to nearby lymph nodes.
