Time is running out for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to finalize the Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Controversies remain over some players in the team, including talisman Rohit Shrama. The goalkeeper position is also vacant and many players are vying for this position. However, former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has a specific idea about the batting line-up he would like to see in the Indian team.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Prasad advocated bringing in less experienced stars like Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav while also highlighting the importance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the team . Prasad just didn’t know where the wicketkeeper was.

“Shivam Dube is known for his batting ability against spin, Surya for being the best international batsman in T20 and Rinku Singh for his finishing ability. If India can find a way to get these three into the T20 World Cup Top 11, that would be great. With Virat and Rohit, that will leave a spot for the wicketkeeper-batsman. It will be interesting to see how it turns out,” he posted on social media.

Interestingly, Prasad did not mention the names of Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul in the batting group.

In the ongoing IPL 2024, the three veterans have not been impressive with their performances with the bat. Their poor performance with the bat could be the reason for Prasad’s lack of trust in them.

Talking about Dube, Surya and Rinku, it is fair to say that the expertise of these three lies in T20 cricket. Their batting performance in the shortest format of the game has impressed many. Their form and ability could be the key to India’s success in qualifying for this year’s T20 World Cup.
