Patna:

A 28-year-old woman in Bihar’s Samastipur died after junior staff at a private medical center allegedly performed sterilization on her in the absence of doctors. Police said they are investigating the matter.

According to reports, the incident took place in Musrigharari, a small town in Samastipur district, about 80 kilometers from the state capital Patna. Relatives of Babita Devi said they took her to Anisha Medical Center for sterilization. The small medical center is located on the first floor of a two-story building.

The woman’s relatives said staff at the center told them there were no doctors available. Then, the composite surgeon began the surgery.

“We brought her here around 9 am. They injected her with saline water. Around 11 am, they started the operation. After about an hour, they put her in an ambulance and took her to Mohanpur. a hospital about 10 kilometers away,” the woman’s uncle said.

He added that the family was not told anything about her condition, but when they touched her to check, they found her body was cold. “She died here. But instead of telling us, they rushed to Mohanpur,” he said.

After Babita Devi’s death was confirmed, her relatives took the body back to Anisha Medical Center and staged a protest. Heartbreaking footage shows an elderly relative calling out to the dead woman. The family alleged that no medical center in Musliglali town had doctors and junior staff, known as compounders, who were performing all medical procedures at the risk of patients’ lives.
