Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar to seek trust vote on February 12

The newly formed NDA government in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will seek a trust vote on February 12, the first day of the budget session, according to a revised notification issued on the matter on Thursday. Previously, the government, which was established less than a week ago, was originally scheduled to seek a vote of confidence on February 10.

However, according to the new notification, the session will begin on February 12, when the governor will also address a joint meeting of members of both houses. JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Bihar chief minister for a record ninth time on January 28, ditching the Mahagathbandhan and the Indian opposition bloc , and formed a new government with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) he abandoned less than 18 months ago.

The election of a new speaker to replace RJD’s Awadh Bihari Choudhary is also scheduled to take place on February 12, while the state economic survey will also be submitted on February 12. The budget was originally scheduled to be presented on February 12 and will now be presented the next day. The meeting will end eleven working days later on March 1. This is likely to be an acrimonious budget session as the NDA has moved a no-confidence motion against the Speaker (RJD) who has not resigned so far.
