Srinagar, July 29, KDC: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has given National Geosal Emerging Faculty Fellow (Interdisciplinary – Jury) Award 2025 Dr. Mohammad Moise Khan, Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering Department, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar have been honored.
This award is Pro. B. Nag Auditorium, Victor Manges Convention Center, IIT Bombay was presented during the ‘Open-SOS GIS Day’ ceremony.
Established by Fosssee (Free/Libere and Open Source Software for Education)-Projects under the National Mission under the National Mission through the National Mission through ICT (NMEIC), Ministry of Education, Government of India under GIS (Geographical Information System) Project for Open-Source geopolitical research under the National Mission. Skuast-K.
The award was presented as Kiran Kumar, former president of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), who saw the occasion as the chief guest.
The primary goal of fosy GIS in IIT Bombay is to raise awareness about open-source geophysic software, promote the use of Indian satellite data (such as ISRO-NRSC’s Bhuvan, Vedas, Mossdack and Bhunidhi portals), and supports indigenous technologies like NAVIC (ISRO-SATI).
National Accreditation, Director, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Reacting to Binod Kumar Kanaujia, it said that this is a proud moment for the entire NIT Srinagar fraternity.
He said, “This is a proud day for NIT Srinagar. Dr. Moise Khan’s award shows how the research of our institute has a real difference between dealing with environment and social challenges,” he said.
Registrar of the Institute, Prof. Atikur Rahman also Dr. Congratulations to Moise and said that the award was done at the Giophysial Domain. There is a will for Khan’s dedication and effective research. He said that this NIT highlights the commitment to promote open source and policy-related scientific functions of Srinagar which aligns with national missions, he said.
Head of Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. FQ Mir gave Dr. Congratulations to Moise Khan for receiving the award. He praised them for using open-sources geophaseic equipment to solve important environmental and urban problems.
“This is a proud moment for our department. Their job will inspire young researchers to take meaningful, real -world projects,” Dr. Mir said.
Dr. Moise projects align with the objectives of the National Geosal Policy 2022 and the Indian Space Policy 2023, which emphasize the use of NAVIC, Indian satellite data and open-source platforms to solve India-specific problems.
In his message, Dr. Moise Khan said that he is humble and honored to get this recognition from a reputed institution like IIT Bombay.
He said, “The award encourages further cooperation and innovation by using geophysics to contribute meaningfully to environmental protection in Kashmir and sustainable urban development.”
The National Geosal Awards is a major initiative of the GIS project at IIT Bombay. They aim to identify contributors in geopolitical technology in various fields, encouraging the use of open-sources GIS tools.
This year, nominations came from across the country. The award winners were selected by a national jury, including experts from ISRO, NRSC, The Survey of India and top educational institutions. (KDC)
