Speaking to News18, Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi has not insulted PM Modi, rather he has insulted Chhathi Maiya and her devotees. He will have to suffer the consequences of this in the Bihar elections.”
Reacting to Gandhi’s comment about Prime Minister Modi dancing on the stage for votes, Shah said, Rahul Gandhi will have to pay the price for this in the elections. Rahul spoke derogatorily about PM Modi and insulted his mother, but every time he has done so, the lotus has blossomed from the mud of the lower level.
Shah said, “I am confident that the voters of Bihar will not forget the insult of Chhath Maiya and Modi ji.”
Amit Shah’s comments came after Gandhi, while addressing a public rally, said, “You (Bihar voters) are able to understand political complexities in a few seconds. I would urge you not to be influenced by Narendra Modi’s theatrics. He would be ready to dance on the stage if he thinks it will get votes.”
The comments have sparked a heated political debate ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, with the BJP accusing the Congress leader of insulting voters while the opposition has been targeting the ruling party over unemployment and governance issues in the state.
BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari accused Rahul Gandhi of “making a mockery of the voters and Indian democracy”, adding that the Congress leader “speaks like a local goon” and that he has “openly insulted every poor person in India and Bihar who voted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
BJP’s Amit Malviya also condemned Gandhi and alleged that he had started his Bihar campaign by “insulting Chhathi Maiya, the great festival of folk faith”. Malviya said that through “old photographs”, earlier the Chhath festival was minimized, and now Gandhi has “deliberately attacked the local festivals, the devotion of crores of people and the faith of those observing Chhath fast.” He described the comments as “reprehensible”.
