The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will head to Super Bowl LXXVIII in a rematch of Super Bowl LXXIV. The Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens (17-10) on the road in the AFC Championship Game to advance to their fourth Super Bowl in five years. In the NFC Championship Game, the 49ers came from behind to defeat the Detroit Lions (34-31).

This will be Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ fourth Super Bowl appearance; he has won two and lost one. The Chiefs are seeking to become the first team since the New England Patriots in 2004 to win back-to-back NFL championships. 49ers’ Brock Purdy is the eighth quarterback to start in a Super Bowl in his first or second NFL season, joining Joe Burrow (2021) and Russell Wilson (2013).
