‘Need to correct my mistakes’: PV Sindhu after being knocked out of All England Badminton Championships

After an early exit from the ongoing All England Open on Thursday, India’s ace badminton player PV Sindhu feels that she should have done better and hopes to regain form by correcting her mistakes. Sindhu lost to defending world champion Ahn Se-young of South Korea in the second round of women’s singles. The two-time Olympic medalist lost to the South Korean 21-19, 21-11 in the last 16 of the BWF Super 1000 event. Overall, this was Sindhu’s seventh loss to An Se Young in the same number of games.

After the match, Sindhu said that she played better in the first game, but lost a huge lead in the second game due to a large number of unforced errors.

“Well I think I should have done a little better, the first game was pretty good and I dropped two or three points but then I was close but in the second game I gave her a huge lead “I need to correct my mistakes and become stronger,” Sindhu was quoted as saying by the Badminton Association of India (BAI). “

Sindhu, ranked 11th in the badminton rankings, took full advantage of the court at the beginning of the first game and took a 4-1 lead. However, An Shiying quickly rebounded to equalize the score at 4-4 and lead 11-8 at halftime.

The Korean player easily dealt with Sindhu’s attack with blocking and precise placement, gaining a 6-point advantage at 17-11.

Former world champion Sindhu smashed twice in a row, narrowing the score gap to just one point, 20-19. But An Shiying successfully ended the game and took the lead in the game.

She went on to praise her opponent, An Se-young, and believed that she should have been more patient as she made some simple mistakes that cost the Korean player the match.

“Of course, she’s a top player now. But I should have been more patient, I made unforced errors. There were some simple mistakes. You know, in the first game it was okay, but then I was closer . But I I think in the second set I gave her a huge lead and then I made a catching error.”

In the second game, Sindhu took the lead and scored two points. However, Se Young’s ability to shift gears effortlessly proved to be a challenge that Sindhu couldn’t overcome. After the halftime break, the score gap proved to be too great and she eventually lost the game after 41 minutes.
