“In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused harm. We did not expect that a censored film that had previously been released in theaters would be removed from an OTT platform. My team and I had no intention of harming anyone. Human feelings, we understand the seriousness of this issue. As a person who believes in God wholeheartedly and often goes to temples across the country, this is the last thing I want to do. “The intention behind Annapoorni is to uplift and inspire, not to cause pain. My journey in the film industry over the past two decades has been guided by a single intention: to spread positivity and promote mutual learning,” Nayata Ra added.

Nayanthara plays Annapoorni. The film revolves around a woman from a conservative Brahmin family who hopes to become a top chef in India. But she still has some obstacles to overcome. One of them was her orthodox family faith. There are several scenes in the movie that show her struggles.

One of them was her classmates who forced her to leave her comfort zone and eat meat. In order to convince her to eat, the classmate mentioned Lord Ram and claimed that he also eats meat and it is not a sin.

Former Shiv Sena leader Ramesh Solanki has lodged a police complaint against the film, claiming that it hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Solanki accused the film of being “anti-Hindu”. The film was eventually removed from Netflix.
