Navy Chief R Hari Kumar does push-ups with cadets at NDA; Garner’s appreciation Watch

A video of Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar doing push-ups with cadets at the National Defense Academy has taken the internet by storm. The Admiral was visiting his alma mater – NDA’s Juliet Squadron – and joined in the celebrations of winning the Champion Chiefs of Staff banner.

As the power-up cadets celebrated their victory with traditional push-ups, the Admiral also joined them in the exercise.

Taking note, the official handle of the Indian Navy posted the video and wrote, “An exciting moment when #CNS was celebrating its victory with traditional push-ups with enthusiastic cadets. #FitIndia #75_GYC_GRAND_FINALE_NDA”

The video, posted on Wednesday, has received over 74,000 views and over 1900 likes on the microblogging site.

Social media users were impressed by the Admiral’s inclusion in the cadets and commented under the Navy’s post. One user wrote, “The cadets have been left with a story of a lifetime…when the CNS visited the squadron.”

“Wonderful gesture, sir! Hats off to the senior Jaguars!! Hopefully, someday the Jaguars will be able to match the “lions”, rulers of the jungle called The Academy, another user wrote.

Another user praised the Admiral’s fitness and said, “Excellent fitness at such an age and high pressure job and responsibility – proud of Indian Navy and CNS.”

Admiral R Hari Kumar took charge as the Chief of the Indian Navy on November 30, 2021. Earlier, Admiral Kumar served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

The admiral – born on April 12, 1962 – was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy on January 1, 1983.

During his distinguished career spanning nearly 39 years, the Admiral served in various command, staff and instructional appointments. His maritime commands include INS Nishank, missile corvette INS Kora and guided-missile destroyer INS Ranveer.

Admiral Kumar also commanded the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat. The Admiral also served as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet. Before taking over as FOC-in-C, Western Naval Command, he was the Chief of the Integrated Staff Committee, Integrated Defense Staff of Headquarters.

He has completed courses from Naval War College, USA, Army War College, Mhow and Royal College of Defense Studies, UK.

Admiral Kumar has also been decorated with Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
