Navi Mumbai police have registered a case against a 27-year-old man in connection with the recent discovery of a body in a water tank of a dilapidated building, an official said.

Sayarali Jalil Sheikh, a resident of Ulam, said that a case was registered under Section 302 of the IPC on Wednesday following a complaint lodged by the brother of the victim, Imdadul Pachu Sheikh (35).

Citing the FIR, the official said that a friend of the accused had sought shelter at the victim’s location to seek brief respite. Sayalali was visibly angry when Imadour asked his friend to leave his room.

Between December 16 and 21 last year, Sayalali allegedly carried out a fatal attack on Imadour and hid the body in an empty water tank in a dilapidated building in Chirle, near Ulan.

The official said the police initially registered a report of accidental death but upgraded it to a murder investigation following the autopsy report and complaints from Immadul’s brother.
