A man facing trial for allegedly killing his mother and teenage daughter last October committed suicide in prison, officials said Wednesday.

Jagdev Singh (37), also known as Michael, was found with his pants hanging in his cell at Anfara district jail on Tuesday night, officials said.

On October 31 last year, Singh attacked 60-year-old mother Kamla Devi and her three-month-old daughter with sharp weapons at their home in Morchapur village, Bishna, on the outskirts of Jammu. He was arrested the next day and booked into an area jail, officials said.

A judicial inquiry into the incident has been ordered.
