It was the performance of Marcus Stoinis in Chepauk on Tuesday as Lucknow Super Giants pulled off a thrilling 6-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings, handing Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side their first home defeat of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Stoinis scored his first IPL century and canceled out Ruturaj’s century, taking his team to fourth position in the points table. Usually, whenever finishes at Chepauk are talked about, it is MS Dhoni whose name is in the headlines, but this time, it was a different MS (Marcus Stoinis) who grabbed the headlines.
Celebrating Stoinis’ brilliant performance, LSG shared a post which took the entire social media world by storm. The Lucknow franchise wrote: “MS finishes in style in Chennai!”, referring to Stoinis at a place where the initials MS do not literally mean ‘Mahendra Singh’.

After CSK posted a total of 210 runs on the board, it did not look like LSG would be able to reach the target given the quality of the hosts’ bowlers. But, Stoinis had different ideas. After the game, Lucknow captain KL Rahul also admitted that he did not think it was a 210-run pitch.
“Very special, especially when it’s a game like that. We were way behind in the game when we were batting so to get it was very special. It was a fresh start, both teams started at 0. Different here. – Different conditions. I think they started really well and put us under pressure. A score of 170-180 would have been great, but it was just not power hitting. There was clever batting, the bowlers played very well,” he said after the match.
