Director Milan Luthria, who is related to Mahesh Bhatt through his mother, narrated how he got into the film industry with Bhatt’s help. He also remembers how Mahesh Bhatt directed films from afar, which became a necessity long before the pandemic. Bart would give instructions over the phone, telling his assistant how to shoot the scene and get the job done.

In an interview with Showsha, Milan Luthria recalled experiencing this approach to filmmaking on his first days working with Bart.

He revealed that Mahesh Bhatt is his mother’s cousin. He started working with him and realized he was a very angry person. “He used to be a very angry man and I was very scared of him. He used to yell at people. I went to meet him at RK Studio in Kimble and the first thing he said to me was, ‘Why did your mother hit Call me on the phone? Why can’t you call me in person? I said sorry. He asked me how I came and I told him I came by car. He banned me from traveling by car. He told me that from now on I would only take the bus or Train travel,” Millan recalled.

Milan then recalled his first day on set. They get a call from Bart, who wants to talk to his assistant. Milan raised his hand and answered the call. Bhatt told him how to frame the shot with Sridevi and Anupam Kher. Milan was nervous about giving orders to Bart’s team, but complied anyway. When Bart arrived on set, Milan greeted him and opened his car door. Bart asked, “Do you do this every day?” Milan said he did.

Some say that Bhatt’s long-distance way of directing caused problems for Aamir Khan while he was shooting for the 1998 film Ghulam. Bart explained in an old interview that this didn’t sit well with him. He once said: “He and I made Ghulam together. It was not a pleasant experience for me. When a man feels burdened by his own greatness, others around him also share this The burden. From a financial standpoint, it’s very difficult, especially when you’re making a movie on a reasonable budget.”
