When Meta’s Threads debuted last year to compete with X (formerly Twitter), the user experience was very basic. It lacks tags, a web-based interface, and the ability to delete Threads profiles independently, requiring users to delete their entire Instagram profile. However, as its user base continues to grow, Meta has been responsive to user feedback and has gradually introduced various features to the app.

Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads is testing a new feature that allows users to view trending topics on the platform. Similar to the Trends section of X, Threads will now incorporate this functionality. Zuckerberg shared the news via a post on Threads, saying: “Conducted a small test targeting the trending topics on Threads in the U.S. today. Once we’re done adjusting, we’ll roll it out to more countries and languages it……”

In addition to Zuckerberg’s announcement, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri added that the feature, called “Today’s Topics,” will appear on search pages and in the “For You” feed. Mosseri also revealed that the content ranking in this section is determined by an artificial intelligence system that takes into account people’s current activities on Threads.

Additionally, to ensure topics are not repetitive or confusing, Threads’ content experts will “review topics selected by the AI system.” “We will learn from this test and iterate over time,” Mosseri added.

When this additional feature becomes fully available on Threads, it will provide a more complete experience – similar to what you get on the X. Additionally, recent reports indicate that Threads is gradually getting back on track in terms of username acquisition, suggesting that this enhancement will play a more important role in helping people rank based on trends.
