Are you ready for a home robot that will do all the household chores for you?
Meet Neo!
That’s actually the sales pitch for this new home robot, a humanoid form-factor shipping in 2026 that promises to do all the housework for you while you go out and do other things.
The price in Early Access presales is listed as $20,000 upfront…..or…..$499/month.
Here are some basic specifications:

Feel good, right?
This video was launched last night and it has taken the internet by storm…
Check out everything Neo can do:
Marks called it “a publicity reel for a thing they’re hoping to be able to build someday” – ouch:
So to be clear, this is a preorder for a humanoid home robot that will cost $20,000 or $500/month when it (probably) ships next year, and is not currently finished. Joanna Stern got to do a demo of it in its current state, and 100% of its activities are tele-operated… https://t.co/pycm3gcRgJ

the only problem?
Ummm, this is huge.
According to this video from the Wall Street Journal, while 2026 robots are supposed to be fully automated, that’s not currently the case. Like, not at all. The whole thing is being teleoperated remotely by a human.
Can you say scary?
See here:
So you put this Neo in your house and it can move around and it has eyes (cameras) and it can see everything in your house… and it’s being operated by some guy in a random call center? Allegedly?
Ummmmm, no thanks!
To be clear, the company says actual units shipping in 2026 will be autonomous by default.
From FAQ On the official Neo website:

So what is “1X Expert” you may ask?
He is the human remote operator, who tele-operates the robot from another location.
But don’t worry, the FAQ says you’re always in full control and they can’t just “take over”:

Look, I want a robot to do household chores just as much as the next guy, but I’m not going to let some guy with a remote control have access to the bot and walk around and check my entire house.
Amazon Alexa is terrible!
Oh, also another problem… attempting to load the dishwasher looks something like this:
From @joannasternGreat video review of @1x_tech Today’s Neo (she makes it clear that this is not the one that will be shipping in 2026).
For now, it’s all remote operated and it *still* struggles a bit with basic functions.
It’s not bullshit, it’s just that this stuff is hard. pic.twitter.com/ySzbGSjvvh

I saw someone describe it as a highly intoxicated man trying to load the dishwasher and once you see it you won’t be able to open it.
worst!
Unless this is seriously improved, you’re probably better off saving the $20,000 and loading the dishwasher yourself.
