Facebook parent company Meta is making major moves to expand its artificial intelligence team. There are reports that CEO Mark Zuckerberg is personally contacting experts from rival companies such as Google DeepMind to join Meta’s artificial intelligence venture.
Zuckerberg has been sending emails directly to researchers urging them to change their stance, people familiar with the matter said. Meta also offers job opportunities without formal interviews and negotiates salaries and incentives to attract top talent, The Information reported.
Meta is reportedly doubling down on developing artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize its platform’s video recommendations. Facebook head Tom Alison revealed Meta’s plans to integrate the recommendation system into a powerful artificial intelligence model, promising more engaging and responsive recommendations. “We’re not just powering Reels, we’re developing a project to power our entire video ecosystem with this single model, and then we can add our feed recommendation products to be served by that model. If we do that This, not only will the recommendations be more engaging and relevant, but we think they will also be more responsive,” she said, according to CNBC.
Meta has been using different AI models to implement various features such as reels, groups, and feeds. Recently, they have also begun to experiment with more advanced artificial intelligence methods to integrate all suggestions under one system. But Meta faces a shortage of computer chips. They have been the main buyer of Nvidia H100 chips, spending $4.5 billion in 2023. Now, with the release of Nvidia’s new Blackwell (or B200) chip, everyone is rushing to get it, and Meta isn’t expected to ship it until 2025.
