The Kerala police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly spreading false propaganda on social media that a three-week lockdown would be announced in the country to tamper with electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The state police media cell said in a statement that the arrested man, MV Sharafuddin, hails from the Malappuram district of the state.

The man allegedly shared screenshots of news reports published during the Covid-19 lockdown on social media as part of his promotion, police said.

This was discovered by the Kochi Cyber ​​Dome branch of the Kerala Police during a social media patrol, the statement said.

The statement also said that in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, social media monitoring teams have been formed at the cyber police headquarters, all ranges and all police districts under the cyber wing to detect those posting and spreading false news on social media The person was in the state on April 26.
