A young man has been shot dead in London and was part of a gang that killed and dismembered a jazz musician following a dispute with drug dealers over money.

Janayo Lucima, 21, was shot and killed at around 10.20pm on Easter Monday at a location in Comeragh Road, West Kensington.

He was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene more than half an hour later.

Police said the area was busy at the time and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Lusima is reportedly just out of prison, having been convicted of obstruction of justice for helping cover up the murder of 53-year-old jazz musician William Algar, who was dismembered in his home in late 2019.

Lucima is said to have purchased bleach and J-cloth and helped run errands while other gang members dismembered Mr Algar’s body in their bathtubs.

Prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC said the attack on Mr Algar was “extremely vicious and went beyond anger”. He told jurors it was a “crazy” work that was “almost psychopathic”.

Mr Algar was described in court as a “good guy” who had many interests and had “no harmful bone in his body”. He suffered from mental health issues and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

After he began using and dealing Class A drugs, his life took a sharp turn for the worse and his home was taken over by other drug dealers in what is known as a “cuckoo” situation.

The body of William Algar, also known as Bryce, was found at his home in Barnes (Metropolitan Police)

Jurors heard Mr Algar had a dispute over money with an unnamed 19-year-old defendant before he died on or about December 1, 2019.

The defendant, described as a drug-dealing gangster, allegedly bullied Mr Algar and threatened to kill his cat, which was never found.

The court heard that after Mr Algar’s death, the defendant held a meeting with gang members on December 16 to decide what to do with the body.

Lusima was jailed for three years and three months in 2019 for her role in disposing of Mr Algar’s body (meet the police)

Lucima bought cleaning products in Tesco and over the following days Mr Algar was dismembered with a “Rambo knife” in his bathtub and his arms and legs dumped in Hounslow Heath.

A month later, his mother reported him missing and police found his head and torso at his home.

An autopsy found he died of a stab wound to the chest.

Mr Algar’s family said in a tribute at the time: “We are devastated to have lost our son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend in such tragic circumstances.

“William Algar, also known as Bryce, was an extremely talented musician and a gentle man. He was an outstanding jazz trumpeter whose playing brought joy to many joy.

“He’s also a very vulnerable person.”
