Mamata Banerjee was pushed from behind? The doctor explains what he really means

Mamata Banerjee, 69, fell down at her residence and suffered severe injuries to her forehead

Kolkata:

A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fell at her Kalighat residence and injured her forehead and nose, Manimoy Bandyopadhyay, director of state-run SSKM Hospital, today clarified that he meant It was the First Minister who may have felt “a feeling of push”.

Mamata Banerjee, 69, fell down inside her Kalighat residence in south Kolkata on Thursday evening and suffered severe injuries to her forehead and nose.

“It was a pushing sensation from behind, which caused (Ms Banerjee) to fall. Our job is to treat and we have done that. People have misunderstood what I said last night,” Dr Bandipadiye explain.

The SSKM chief said on Thursday night that Banerjee “fell down near her house due to the push from behind”.

Dr Bandypadhyay’s ‘push from behind’ theory has triggered massive confusion and speculations about the reasons for the fall of the Trinamool Congress chief.

She received three stitches on her forehead and one on her nose and was discharged from the hospital after undergoing necessary medical tests, including radio imaging of her brain and an electrocardiogram.

A senior official at SSKM Hospital said Mamata Banerjee, who had been advised bed rest, was clinically “stable” this morning and doctors said they planned to conduct some routine check-ups during the day.

“CM’s health condition is stable. She slept well at night and senior doctors are keeping a close eye on her. Another assessment of her condition will be conducted,” the official told news agency PTI on Friday.

Asked about speculations about the chief minister’s fall, a police officer told PTI, “So far, no complaint has been received related to her fall. We have tightened security around the chief minister’s official residence.”

Mamata Banerjee was given ‘Z category’ cover and had a special team of police officers to look after her security, even at her residence.

The TMC on Thursday night released photos of Ms Banerjee with a bloody forehead.

Party national general secretary Abhishek, nephew of Mamata Banerjee, took her to the hospital in his car and admitted her.
