Mahadev App case: Investigating agency seizes assets worth Rs 580 crore

Mahadev App Case: The Enforcement Directorate has so far arrested nine people in this case.

The Enforcement Directorate has seized security assets worth over Rs 580 crore and cash and valuables worth Rs 3.64 crore of a Dubai-based “hawala operator” after fresh raids in a money laundering case linked to Mahadev App, official sources said on Friday. Have confiscated.

The latest raids were launched on February 28 at various premises in Kolkata, Gurugram, Delhi, Indore, Mumbai and Raipur.

The Enforcement Directorate’s investigation into the Mahadev online gaming and betting app has indicated the alleged involvement of various high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh.

Sources said the agency has identified a “hawala operator” Hari Shankar Tibrewal in this case. He is a resident of Kolkata but currently lives in Dubai. He partnered with the promoters of Mahadev App and also owned and operated an alleged illegal betting app – SkyExchange.

He said the Enforcement Directorate has seized security assets worth Rs 580.78 crore “beneficially owned” by Tibrewal under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

According to sources, during these searches the agency recovered cash worth Rs 1.86 crore and valuables worth Rs 1.78 crore.

The Enforcement Directorate has so far arrested nine people in this case.

The agency had earlier said that the alleged illegal money generated by the Mahadev app was used to bribe politicians and bureaucrats in Chhattisgarh, where the main promoters and operators of the app hail from.

So far, the Enforcement Directorate has filed two charge sheets in the case, including one against Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, the two main promoters of the alleged illegal betting and gaming app. It had conducted several raids in the case earlier also.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, the estimated proceeds of crime in this case are around Rs 6,000 crore.
