A case has been booked against Madhya Pradesh Congress MP Veer Singh Bhuria for making the ‘cut off hands’ remark while he was allegedly campaigning for his party candidate in the Ratlam-Jhabua Lok election, an official said today Remarks made while sitting in the Sabha seats.

The lawmaker, who represents Tandra seat, was caught on video allegedly asking his supporters to “cut off” the hands of those who talked about splitting votes during the Lok Sabha polls in Jhabua district of the state.

The remarks triggered allegations of MLA breaches of the model code of conduct.

An FIR was registered against Mr. Bhuria under Section 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code on Wednesday based on a complaint by Meghnagar tehsildar Bijendra Katare, the official said.

The legislator also allegedly called the Bhilala community “Thieves and Bandits” (Thieves and Bandits), while targeting Anita Chouhan, the BJP candidate from Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha constituency.

He made the remarks on Tuesday in Madrani village, about 25 km from Jhabua, while campaigning for Congress nominee from Ratlam-Jhabua seat Kantilal Bhuria.

“If anyone talks about cutting votes and JAYS (Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti Sangathan), then chop off their hands and don’t spare them. Treat them in this way, only then they will recognize you,” he said.

JAYS is a tribal organization that has a certain influence in the western MP tribe-dominated areas.

Reacting to his controversial remarks that went viral on social media, Anita Chauhan’s husband and Madhya Pradesh Forest Minister Nagar Singh Chauhan said he will also file a complaint with the Election Commission.

After his alleged comments sparked controversy, Bria said he respected all communities but declined to answer questions about the “cut off hands” remark.

Ratlam Jhabua constituency is reserved for scheduled tribe candidates.
