MS Dhoni will be back on the cricket field when IPL 2024 kicks off on March 22 with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the tournament opener. Dhoni has not played competitive cricket since last year’s IPL 2023 final, when he led CSK to a record-equalling fifth title. Dhoni suffered a knee problem last season and subsequently underwent a successful surgery to resolve the issue. While there are a lot of speculations that IPL 2024 will be Dhoni’s last game, former CSK batsman Robin Uthappa said that the former India captain’s “knees are wearing out”.
Talking about Dhoni’s fitness, former India all-rounder Irrfan Pathan revealed that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman’s knee looks fine. Irrfan said he met Dhoni a few days ago and the former India captain was playing “pickleball”.
“Last year, Dhoni said he was going to give a gift to the fans with cricket. I met him a few days ago and he played pickleball non-stop for two hours. His knees are as healthy as ever. It’s a An exciting game.” It’s time to show off for the fans; he now has a retro look. Will we get a retro Dhoni too? ” he told Star Sports.
Responding to rumors that Dhoni might bat in the opening innings, Irrfan suggested that the CSK skipper will continue to bat.
“His role has changed in the two years. He is lower in the order, bowls less, but hits big balls and has a good strike rate. It was a small innings but memorable. I don’t think there will be too many “Things will change this year. He will continue to play that role and hope to contribute as captain. But if he offers the fans more, there won’t be any complaints. ” Irrfan explained.
The IPL 2024 opener between CSK and RCB will also mark the return of star batsman Virat Kohli, who pulled out of the England series due to personal reasons.
Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma welcomed their second child, a baby boy, last month.
