Made in Chelsea star Louise Thompson has revealed she has had an ostomy bag fitted after months of health problems.

The reality star shared a short video on social media telling her 1.4 million Instagram followers about “this gray bag that probably saved my life.”

Thompson said the news was “not exactly a glamorous announcement, but I don’t want to hide it forever.”

The 34-year-old began her post by writing: “How do I disclose news like this?”

She continued: “It’s not as exciting as a big pregnancy or gender reveal!

“Hey, look I gave birth to a boy…hey, look I have a stoma!
“So I guess I’m just standing here
“Proud figure
“With my new friends
“Bag
“That represents life
“And hope for a better one.”

Thompson suffers from ulcerative colitis, a chronic intestinal disease that causes parts of the intestines to become swollen, inflamed and ulcerated.

The condition can sometimes be treated with medication, but if this doesn’t effectively control symptoms or quality of life is significantly affected, surgery to remove part or all of the bowel (colon) may be an option, the NHS says.

During surgery, the small intestine can be diverted through an opening in the abdomen called a stoma.

Earlier this year, Thompson shared an update on her health issues And thanks to the NHS and medical staff for their support.

“Just get rid of that nasty menacing colon”

She continued in her latest post: “Isn’t it weird that this little gray bag is the price I pay for my health!

“I say, get rid of that nasty, sinister colon!”

The star concluded by asking followers to “be kind.”

In 2011, Thompson appeared in the first series of Made in Chelsea and gradually became one of the protagonists of the E4 show.

Her co-star Ryan Libbey joined the cast in 2016 during filming in the South of France, and the couple got engaged in 2018. Their son Leo was born in 2021, but Thompson suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after becoming seriously ill at birth.

Sharing her video, Libby said: “It breaks my heart and fills me with love at the same time. This woman is so much stronger than me – what an inspiration.”

Her brother Sam Thompson, a TV presenter who also appeared in Made in Chelsea, also shared the video, writing: “My sister, ladies and gentlemen .my eternal hero.”

Thousands of Instagram users have left messages of support, including celebrities including Love Island star Montana Brown, former Made in Chelsea star Ashley James and TV presenter Stacey Dooley.
