The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will hold a massive rally in Delhi today to protest against the arrest of its national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The ‘Loktantra Bachao’ (Save Democracy) rally to be held at Ramlila Maidan is seen by the Indian bloc as a show of strength and unity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Some of the senior leaders present included Congress president Malikajun Haq, senior party leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) supreme leader Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti and Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien.

The Delhi Police was on alert and had made elaborate arrangements for the large rally of the AAP-led Indian group, checking every gate and deploying paramilitary personnel in and around the Ramlila Maidan.
Delhi Police allowed the rally to take place under certain conditions, including a ban on processions, tractor-trolleys and weapons in central Delhi.

The government has allowed 20,000 people to attend the rally, but police expect the number to exceed 30,000.
AAP claimed that the rally could reach one lakh, which is the full capacity of the Ramlila Maidan.
Ramlila Maidan has prepared 7 entrances and exits where every visitor will be checked using door frame metal detectors and handheld machines.
As per the traffic advisory of Delhi Police, traffic will be regulated and may be subject to restrictions on Ranjeet Singh flyover from Barakhamba Road to Guru Nanak Chowk, Vivekanand Marg from Minto Road to Kamla Market roundabout, JLN Marg from Delhi Gate to Guru Nanak Chowk Market and Ajmeri Gate, Kamla Market Circle to Guru Nanak Chowk and Chaman Lal Marg near VIP Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk to Turkmen Gate from 9 am to 3 pm.
Traffic diversion may also be implemented at Rajghat Chowk, Minto Road, DDU Marg, Mirdard Chowk, Paharganj Chowk, A-Point and Delhi Gate from 9 am.

People traveling to ISBT, train stations or the airport are advised to allow sufficient time to plan their travels.
Several senior leaders of the Indian group will attend the rally, which comes days after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case.
Congress president Mallikarjun Haq and former party president Rahul Gandhi will attend the ‘loktantra bachao’ rally. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is also likely to attend the rally.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, Janata Party’s Tejashwi Yadav, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharadchandra Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray will also attend the mega rally.

Other prominent political leaders and INDIA members like Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, Communist Party of India (M) secretary Chief Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja and DMK’s Tiruchi Siva will also attend the rally.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, cabinet ministers and AAP MLAs will also participate in the rally.
Kalpana Soren, wife of former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, who is currently in jail, will also attend the rally. Ms Soren met Mr Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal at the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence at 6 Flagstaff Road on Saturday.
