Lily Allen appears to criticize Beyoncé’s latest country album, Cowboy Carter, Describing it as “carefully planned” and questioning the artist’s decision to cover Dolly Parton’s classic, Jolene.
The London native expressed her views on an episode of the BBC Sounds podcast miss me? With co-host Mikita Oliver.
Allen said her move to country music was strategic, especially in light of her husband Jay-Z’s comments at the Grammys, where he expressed displeasure with her lack of recognition in certain categories.
“I thought it was very well thought out,” Allen said, looking back on Jay-Z’s speech.
She noted that the timing of Jay-Z’s comments was before the album was announced and mentioned that she was wearing a blonde wig and cowboy hat at the event.
These observations led Allen to speculate on the orchestrated nature of Beyonce’s foray into country music.
