The newly elected chairman of the Maldives Democratic Party posted on his social media account The specific numbers are telling. There are no foreign armed soldiers stationed in the country.”

“Transparency is important and the truth must prevail,” he said.

It is worth noting that deleting Indian troops in Maldives is the main campaign event for Muizu’s political party. Currently, about 70 Indian soldiers, Dornier 228 maritime patrol aircraft and two HAL Dhruv helicopters are stationed in the Maldives.

On the second day after taking office, Muizu formally requested the Indian government to withdraw its troops from the Maldives.

In December last year, Muizu claimed that after talks with the Indian government, an agreement was reached to withdraw Indian military personnel.

The President also said that diplomatic negotiations for the withdrawal of Indian troops are ongoing. He detailed that according to the last negotiation, the military personnel on one of the three aviation platforms will be withdrawn before March 10, 2024, and the military personnel on the remaining two platforms will be withdrawn before May 10, 2024.

Earlier this month, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said India would replace military personnel on Maldivian aviation platforms with capable Indian technicians.
