Trivandrum:

The Kerala police on Saturday registered a case against an online channel for spreading fake news against electronic voting machines and polling officials.

According to a case registered by the city’s cybercrime station, the online channel had posted that electronic voting machines in the capital region were malfunctioning, sparking controversy among election officials and politicians.

The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by the district collector, police said.

The online channel retracted the message after taking legal action, police said in a statement on Facebook.

The police also warned of strict action against those spreading misleading and hateful speeches among the public related to the Lok Sabha polls.

The state has launched 24×7 cyber patrol to detect various such cyber crimes, they added.
