A Delhi court granted bail to former Bihar chief minister Lalu Yadav’s wife Rabri Devi and her two daughters Misha Bharati and Hema Yadav for allegedly exchanging land for Job scam.
Special judge Vishal Gogne granted relief to the trio after the ED claimed it needed time to present arguments on their regular bail applications.
In its order, the court noted that since the accused were not “consciously” arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, “there is no need for them to be detained and there is no need for them to be arrested”.
The court also allowed federal agencies to file responses in the matter.
On January 27, a Delhi court summoned Rabri Devi (also the former chief minister of Bihar) and her daughters, among others, after receiving allegations against the education ministry. Special Judge Vishal directed them to appear before the court, saying there were sufficient grounds to proceed with the matter.
The judge also issued a production order to businessman Amit Katyal, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with the case. Katyal was arrested by the anti-corruption agency in November last year in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav was questioned by ED officials for over nine hours in Patna on January 29.
The central agency issued summons to Yadav on January 19 as he had failed to appear before the court.
The agency alleged that Yadav violated recruitment procedures by grabbing land from job seekers in exchange for employment opportunities in the railways when he was the Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009.
