Two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 3 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Saturday, March 23 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. SRH finished a disappointing tenth place in the IPL last year in 2023. The 2016 IPL champions will enter the upcoming season under the leadership of new captain Pat Cummins and new head coach Daniel Vettori. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer-led KKR are also hoping to bounce back after a mediocre performance in IPL 2023. The return of former captain Gautam Gambhir as a mentor will provide impetus to the team.

KKR predict XI

Phil Salt (goalkeeper)

England wicket-keeper batsman Phil Salt, who has performed well in the recent tour of West Indies, is expected to open for KKR. He has scored 5,308 runs in 228 T20 games, which makes him an asset to any team.

Venkatesh Iyer

KKR will also rely on their talented opener Venkatesh Iyer to give them a strong start. Venkatesh scored 404 runs in 14 games last year and can also take wickets.

Shreyas Iyer (captain)

Shreyas Iyer, who missed last year due to injury, will return as KKR captain this season. He scored 2,776 runs in 101 IPL games at an average of over 30.

Nitish Rana

Nitish Rana was one of the highlights for KKR last year, scoring over 400 runs. The left-hander will play a key role in the middle order and will look to build on his 2,594 IPL matches so far.

Sunil Narine

As always, Sunil Narine is comfortable with the ball in IPL 2023 and he will aim to bring more match-winning performances for KKR this season as he looks to add 163 wickets to the league tally pillar gate.

Mitchell Stark

Mitchell Starc, who was acquired for a whopping Rs 2,475 crore, will lead KKR’s bowling department. Starc, who has taken 34 scalps in his two seasons in the IPL, will be the first-choice bowler for the two-time champions.

Varun Chakraborty

Varun Chakravarthy, who took 20 wickets in 14 games for KKR last year, once again posed a huge threat to the opposition batsmen with his spin and cunning.

Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana has been in fine form in the Ranji Trophy this year and is likely to become a regular opener for KKR this season as he looks to build on his six scalps in the IPL so far.

Mayank Agarwal has had a decent first-class season with Karnataka. The 33-year-old is a strong contender for the SRH opener, having scored 2,597 runs in 123 IPL games.

Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma has impressed for Punjab in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and he is a natural in the SRH line-up Pick, the explosive batsman is looking to go one better in the 2022 IPL season in which he scored 426 runs, his highest score in a single season.

Aiden Markram

SA20 winning captain Aiden Markram will add strength and stability to the SRH batting unit in IPL 2024. However, in order to perform at his best in the IPL, the upcoming season could be his good year in SRH.

Pat Cummins enjoyed a fantastic 2023 as Australia’s World Cup-winning captain, while also defending their Ashes trophy. Cummins is a natural leader who can contribute runs and take wickets and is expected to at least lead SRH into the playoffs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

India veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the driving force behind SRH’s pace attack over the years. He has taken 170 wickets in the IPL so far and will play a huge role for SRH this year.

Mayank Marchand

With the lack of spin bowling options, leg-spinner Mayank Markande is likely to play an effective role for SRH this season. He had a decent season last year with 12 scalps and will hope to improve further in the 2024 IPL.

T Natarajan

When fit and shooting, T Natarajan’s ability with the ball is unstoppable. He managed 48 wickets in five IPL seasons and can be a threat to any batting line-up with his bowling versatility.
