Key phase of Dwarka Expressway opens today, shortening travel time from Delhi to Gurgaon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today inaugurate a key phase of the landmark Dwarka Expressway that will ease traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon route.

  1. The Haryana portion of the Dwarka Expressway will be opened today, which will help improve traffic flow on NH-48 between Delhi and Gurgaon. The expressway will reduce the travel time of 90,000 commuters by at least 20 minutes every day.

  2. This is India’s first single-pillar highway, with a total length of 18 kilometers and multiple underpasses and access roads. The eight-lane expressway will also directly connect Delhi International Airport to Gurgaon Bypass.

  3. The highway was constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 10,000 crore. The cost of the Haryana unit is Rs 4,100 crore. These include a 10.2-km stretch connecting the Delhi-Haryana border with the Passai Railway Bridge (ROB) and an 8.7-km stretch between the Passay ROB and Kherki Daula.

  4. This is one of the Rs 100-crore highway projects that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of today across the country. The Dwarka Expressway is an important part of the Bharatmala Project, the flagship infrastructure project of the Modi government.

  5. Traffic restrictions were imposed in the border areas between Delhi and Gurgaon in view of the Prime Minister’s activities. Delhi and Gurgaon police also issued traffic warnings.

  6. Other major projects inaugurated today include the 9.6-km six-lane Urban Extension Road II (UER-II)-Package 3 between Delhi’s Nangloi-Najafgarh Road and Dwarka stretch in Sector 24.

  7. Three sections of the Lucknow Ring Road and the Anandapuram-Pendurthi-Anakapalli phase of Andhra Pradesh’s NH-16 will also be inaugurated today.

  8. The Prime Minister will also launch projects worth Rs 3,400 crore in Himachal Pradesh, Rs 2,750 crore in Karnataka and Rs 20,500 crore in other parts of the country.

  9. The road projects whose foundation stones will be laid today include 14 sections of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Expressway and 6 sections of the Belgaum-Hungund-Raichur section of Karnataka’s NH-748A.

  10. The foundation stones of different sections of the Shamli-Ambala Expressway in Haryana and the Amritsar-Bathinda corridor in Punjab will be laid by the Prime Minister.
