Kerala YouTuber arrested over fake news on voting machines: Report

Trivandrum:

The owner of a YouTube channel has been arrested in Kerala for spreading fake news about electronic voting machines ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, police said today.

According to Press Trust of India, police in south Alappuzha have registered a case against the owner of YouTube channel Venice TV Entertainment, accusing him of fraud for promoting EVM.

He was arrested for allegedly launching a campaign urging people to vote for the general election through ballot papers.

The police said on their official Facebook page today that the aim was to create rifts and tension in society.

In the wake of the Lok Sabha polls, Kerala has intensified social media patrols at state, district and range levels to monitor online content, police said.

Police also shared the number of officers conducting cyber patrols and urged social media monitoring teams to notify them if they find any objectionable content.

The Lok Sabha polls will be held in Kerala on April 26.
